Bad Reviews Slam Spore

| More

The Spore Creature Creator was the best part for this overhyped, underdeveloped gameplay, DRM strangled, too big for it’s own good Revolutionary Game

With the highly anticipated launch of Spore and the Creature Creator now complete the reviews are in. And they are bad. Oh the Creature Creator is great and is probably the best feature. But the Game is getting slammed on Amazon.com with an average 1.5 rating mainly for the poorly thought out and overly restrictive DRM. In addition the gameplay is too focused on the Space stage.

Here is a YouTube Video of the Spore Space Stage:

The other stages are just too short and undeveloped almost like they are an afterthought. The space stage is on the otherhand difficult, long, complicated, and too big. The overall size of Spore and the huge tasks it attempted to undertake: revolutionary character design, evolutionary simulator, culture and species interaction, huge social network, were simply just too much for one undertaking. And you have to wonder if 10 years in development was not too much for the end product. Wouldn’t they have been better served rolling out the different stages of life and evolution as seperate games every 2 to 3 years?

What do you think?
