Open Source helps SecondLife move forward
The decision to move SecondLife to an open source platform was definately controversial. However, given the success of other such projects and the growing problems Linden Labs has experienced it was widely hailed as the correct decision.
Significant progress has been made since then including:
Viewer updates
Memory leak corrections
Improving viewer stability
non-English language display
cross language communication
group speak improvements
time and date stamp to chat logs
PNG image support
various patches to security and performance issues
and the creation of a first rate development team and portal.
