Breakdancing, also known as b-boying and b-girling is a dance style that emerged from the street as part of the hip hop movement particularly in New York City and the South Bronx after 1970. The breakdance music or music accompying breakdancing is typically a remix of hip hop or funk music.
This unstructured dance style requires a large amount of creativity and improvisation to incorporate many different moves and positions and can require a large amount of physical conditioning and stamena.
