Second Life OpenSim Long Distance Teleportation Breakthroughs

We have written before about IBM assisting Linden Lab to teleport Avatars from Second Life to OpenSim.

Well now long distance teleportation has been conducted between different OpenSimulator servers from Oregon, to Utah, to Illinois at astonishing speed.

This is a very cool development and speaks volumes for the continued power of Open Source technology and virtual worlds. The goal is a seamless 3d virtual world without delays caused by assets transfers, large inventories, or rezz delays.

The demonstration was part of a Metaverse U presentation using the Intel backed Science Sim and teleportation code from Cristina Lopes. New World Notes has more information.
