New Virtual Land Restrictions in Second Life

Linden Lab announced new restrictions to virtual land in Second Life recently. Starting in early February, extensive subdividing of virtual land in the Mainland regions is no longer allowed.

This change does not apply to private estates or owners of already sub divided land partitions.

Another possible restriction would be imposing a ceiling on the value of virtual land parcels in the Mainland that are 64 square meters or less.

Second Life Real Estate Mogul Ansche Chung would never have been able to build her empire with these land restrictions in place and she has long since left the Mainland to private servers running her own covenant (rent paid in place of Linden Lab tier fees) and rules.

These new restrictions along with the recent restrictions to zoning and advertising in Second Life and script and prim restrictions to OpenSpaces and Homesteads in Second Life will ultimately result in decreased server load and better grid stability, something increasingly important with the Second Life grid stability issues recently.
