Below we see instructions on how to create a landmark in the virtual world of Second Life.

1. Click “World” at the top menu.

2. Choose Create a Landmark Here.

3. The landmark then appears in Inventory in a Landmarks folder

4. Change the picture with: World then About Land then Options then Go to Snapshot box & next replace the picture finally choose Apply or Ok.

5. Rename or add a description by right-clicking the landmark and then choose Rename or About Landmark.

In the below video we see a tutorial on how to avoid stretched or squashed images when uploading and applying them to prims in Second Life. The key is to use image texture aspect ratios. In the below video you see the asp0ect ratios for different types of items listed on the Second Life Wiki Texture Limits. You can then use that information with an aspect ratio calculator such as the Javascript continuum ratio calculator.

The tutorial shows how to change your image in Adobe Photoshop or another image editor in order to prepare it correctly. You must then save the .png, upload it, and ignore all the previous until the end result shows the correct proportions.

We have written before about 3d Roller Coasters in Second Life because….well….they are a lot of fun. Now you can build your own virtual roller coaster in Second Life with a free roller coaster builder which includes a track maker Tool. Check out the below high definition video. It is about four and a half minutes long. The video shows some virtual roller coaster games with riding and then the 3d roller coaster designer track builder tool Track Maker v5.56 which includes automatic generation of loops. It is really quite good.

Eddy Fragment Robonaught has developed a 12 part video series on Script LSL and the basics of LSL Second Life Scripting. LSL stands for Linden Scripting Language and is a compiled script which runs in the virtual world of Second Life to control objects and more. It is based in Java and C and written with a built-in compiler and editor. This script is then executed on the Linden Lab servers. You can use LSL to move objects, interact with avatars, operate objects, or change the appearance of prims and more.

There are 12 tutorials in all and they are about 10 minutes each. You can view all of the video Second Life LSL tutorials here
