Below is a new video interview with Mark Kingdon Chief Executive Officer of Linden Lab, creator of Second Life. The video interview discusses the launch of the new Second Life browser viewer (a new client – no it’s not browser based you still have to download and install something).
The new viewer is very simplified, incorporates more social networking features, and has improved search functionality. The video is about 20 minutes long. Also below is a list of the top new features of the 2.0 Viewer. Check it out below……………..

We have written frequently about the thriving Second Life Art community. Virtual art is probably one of the greatest benefits of Second Life.
Today Linden Lab announced the Linden Endowment for the arts. The Second Life LEA will support and highlight virtual artists. Works of art will be gathered together in an immersive space (virtual museum) for everyone to enjoy at an inworld Arts Hub. A LEA organization committee with also be formed which will organize biannual art exhibitions of the most creative virtual artwork.
M Linden will be chairing the Linden Endowment for the Arts committee…………….

We have written before about the SL Pro Conference. Well it starts today and runs from February 23, 2010 until February 25, 2010. The conference will be held in Second Life at the NMC Conference Center virtual sim.

We wrote last year about the Virtual Words Best Practicies in Education Conference. The 2010 version of this international virtual education conference will run from March 12, 2010 until March 13, 2010. The VWBPE 2010 Conference will include many guest speakers and educational sessions around the theme: “Imagination Around the World”.
The conference has been a success in the past with 1,500 participants growing to 3,600 last year. This year additional languages will be offered including Portuguese, German, Chinese, and French.

Cry Havok 7 and let slip the dogs of war. It has been awhile since we wrote about the Second Life physics engine Havok. Havok 7 has come a long way from Havok4.
This latest version is expected to be released by the end of the year and improve the performance of physics in the virtual world. This physics engine simulates object collisions and interactions using mathmatical computations which estimate momentum, gravity, and more. Havok is also used in BioShock 2, Assassin’s Creed II, Halo 3 ODST, as well as many other popular games.
