Second Life Update

Second Life is now approaching 30,000 sims. The projection is that these numbers will be reached by the end of 2008. But is this accurate? The Second Life server grid is reporting only about 2,000-3,000 sims. Even with a huge rate of growth is this larger number possible by 2009 or ever?
