Wimbledon is entering Second Life. IBM will be simulating actual Wimbledon tennis matches in second life similiar to what was accomplished with the Australian Open. There is also talk of simulating realtime weather conditions for the Wimbledon tennis matches as well as crowd interaction and reaction.

Reports of objects vanishing from inventory and are unable to rez inworld. Users will often see an error message “Attempt to rez an object failed”. The error seems to be related to rezzing no-copy objects.
Linden Labs is planning a rolling restart to correct the code errors after their developers create a fix.

The rolling restart was completed at 10:55 a.m. PDT which required a restart to correct several bugs. This was after a postponement due to other niworld issues. Thankfully copyable objects are now appearing in inventory after they have been taken and the viewer crashes have been corrected.

On Wednesday, total residents were listed at over 7.6 million with over 1.7 million logged in the last 60 days. 41,482 residents were currently logged in at 3:22 pm with over $2.1 million spent in the last 24 hours and a very low LindeX $251,518 in the last 24 hours.

The decision to move SecondLife to an open source platform was definately controversial. However, given the success of other such projects and the growing problems Linden Labs has experienced it was widely hailed as the correct decision.
